Ganglion excision

Recent research has been performed comparing standard open ganglion excision techniques versus arthroscopic (key hole) ganglion tecniques. The results showed that at one year after surgery, the rates of recurrence with arthroscopic ganglion excision are comparable with and not superior to those of open ganglion excision. They conclude that additional long-term comparative studies are needed to evaluate this technique more carefully. Mike Hayton has performed a number of ganglion excisions arthroscopically and in his small series agrees with this articles findings. The journal reference is J Hand Surg (AM) 2008 Apr 33(4) 471-5
