Consultant Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon
Mike has been on the Specialist Register as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon since 2003, and his clinical practice is exclusively surgery of the Hand and Wrist.
His NHS base is at Wrightington Hospital.
He consults privately at The OrthTeam Centre (M20 2AF), and on the private wing at his NHS base Wrightington Hospital (WN6 9EP).
Mike has developed a special interest in sports injuries and is the hand surgeon to many professional sports teams and national sporting bodies. He was awarded the status of a Founding Fellow in the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine (FFSEM UK).
Mike indirectly holds a 2.72% share in Didsbury MSK Limited, which owns the OrthTeam Centre. He is a director and shareholder of OrthTeam Didsbury Limited which provides consultancy services to Didsbury MSK Limited for a fee of £500 per hour.
Over the past 5 years Mike has received payments as a speaker and also as a clinical advisor to the following companies :

- Medartis
Mike is a keen teacher and regularly lectures in the UK and Europe and North America. He has been invited to give lectures at the American Society of Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) and American Association of Hand Surgery (AAHS) for the last 8 years, including being a regular program chair of hand and wrist sports injuries symposia.
He has given two keynote lectures at the AAHS, namely, the "Danyo Lecture" in 2011 and the prestigious "Presidential Invited Lecture" in 2015.
In 2024 he will give the "International Presidential Lecture" at the ASSH.
His research is regularly published in European and American Literature. In the past Mike was an examiner for the Intercollegiate Board of Examinations for the FRCS(Trauma and Orthopaedics) and the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine.
His specialist training originated in Liverpool (4 years), a Whiston Hospital Plastic Surgery Hand Fellowship (6 months), a Wrightington Hospital Fellowship (2 years) and as a visiting Resident to the Mayo clinic in Rochester, USA (3 months)
He is a member of the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH) and was accepted as an International Member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) in 2014.
Mike is married with three children. His hobbies are centered on sport and played rugby union at the highest National league, ultimately Captaining the English Universities Team.
A serious neck injury which brought his contact sports career to a rapid halt and now plays golf and generally keeps fit playing pickleball and cycling.
